Health Warning Signs

From A to Z: Dr. Oz’s Guide to Your Health

Do you suffer from gas? Regular migraines? Knee pain? Today, Dr. Oz talks about the warning signs your body may be sending. You’ll learn information that will help you combat aging and help you get a better night’s sleep.

Dr. Oz visited Central Park in New York City to find out what the most common health issues were. Some people had issues with aging (A), while others admitted issues with flatulence (F.) Some people said they just needed more ZZZs. No matter what the issue was, Dr. Oz broke the ABCs down. Other health issues included: allergies, acne, avoiding caffeine, and nearsightedness. Some viewers said they had problems with hangovers, while others admitted to various skin and digestive issues.

Health Warning Signs: Diverticulitis

Audience member Ashley tells Dr. Oz she is experiencing abdominal pain. When she ate a large meal celebrating the holidays, she suffered from bloating. Dr. Oz tells her the bloating can be nothing, but it may also be a condition known as diverticulitis. This is a condition caused by holes in the colon. Holes in the colon come from when stool is squeezed too hard. The holes can trap feces. When the holes get inflamed, this allows fecal matter to escape from the inside to the outside of the colon.

Health warning signs of diverticulitis include: abdominal pain (especially if you experience in the lower left side.) and high fever. If you experience these symptoms, make an appointment to see your doctor immediately.

Health Warning Signs: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Audience member Brianna says she has issues with her bladder, including frequent urination. Dr. Oz says this could be a sign of a UTI that is spreading. Bacteria from the urine in the bladder makes it way up to the kidneys, which causes inflammation and redness. The UTI can travel to your heart and cause you to die.

Health warning signs of UTI spreading include: rapid heart rate, fever, rapid breathing, and back pain. The back pain is the most important sign because it is indicative that the kidneys are inflamed and possibly infected. If you experience pain by a simple tough to the back, you should make a doctor’s appointment as soon as possible.

Health Warning Signs: Alzheimer’s Disease

Audience member Christine tells Dr. Oz that sometimes she experiences change in smell. He tells her that this could be a sign of Alzheimer’s Disease onset. He says to test for changes in your sense of smell using a blindfold. Once blindfolded smell things such as:

  • Strawberry
  • Smoke
  • Soap
  • Lemons
  • Leather
  • Lilac
  • Clove
  • Peppermint
  • Natural gas
  • Rose
  • Cherry
  • Pineapple

If you are healthy, you should be able to pick out at least 9 of these smells while wearing the blindfold.

Health Warning Signs: Heart Disease

Audience member Danielle tells Dr. Oz she gets dizzy sometimes. He says this could be indicative of heart disease. When the heart is strong, it pumps oxygen to the head. You have normal blood pressure when this happens. If you get dizzy, it could be because the heart is not strong enough to get blood all the way to the brain.

Health warning signs of heart disease include:

  • sweating
  • nausea
  • shortness of breath
  • neck pain
  • jaw pain
If you are experiencing these signs, see your doctor as soon as possible.
