We get three drinks, three supplements, and several quick snacks to have on hand for emergency situations where healthy food is not near. We also get a sneak peek at why some restaurant foods can be making you fat, and some fast food options under 500 calories you can opt for when you’re in a pinch.

Rocket Fuel: Drinks to Boost Your Metabolism

  • Belly Blast Hot Shot: 2 Tbsp Tomato Juice ½ tsp. horseradish, hot sauce to taste, and dash of lime juice for vitamin C to boost the immune system and boost the metabolism.
  • Kombucha Wonder Drink: Fermented oolong tea (brand name drink available at health food stores, helps detox the liver so it can handle what you’re eating (even when bad) switch out for soda, you’ll lose 7 pounds per year with no additional exercise.  This is a name brand product, available at many health food stores.
  • Spicy Red Icy: Spicy red wine, add ice chips; add mint. Helps to stave off late night cravings. Body burns extra calories when it warms drink to temperature.

Power Pills: Supplements to Boost Your Fat Burning Power

The following supplements are recommended to help your body naturally boost its own fat burning power:

  • Fucoxanthin: comes brown seaweed, a natural source of nutrients to help burn off fat, particularly belly fat. 200 mg/day.
  • Sacha Inchi: Incan peanuts, available in an oil form with healthy fats. The fat cells relax and no longer feel under attack to help release the fat cells. 600 mg/day
  • L-Arginine: an amino acid to help support muscle mass, which helps fat burn.

Quick Snacks

  • Quinoa, Chicken, and Tomato: This combination is full of nutrients your body needs to burn fat; proteins and healthy fats.
  • Pepitas: Pumpkin and squash seeds: Highly nutritious and a healthy source of proteins, iron and phosphorous, these are a healthy snack for anyone who is trying to lose weight.
  • Daikon: a white vegetable full of nutrients, widely used in Korean cuisine. It is basically a white radish, but smaller and more mild in flavor than a traditional red radish.

Why Restaurants Make You Fat

Chef Rocco DiSpirito visits to say resturants hide fat in many dishes. Even “light” dishes are not always light. As a general rule, the thicker the sauce, the worse it is for your health, so stick to au ju and clear sauces. Remember tomato sauces on pasta and pizza are loaded with sugar!

Fast Food Under 500 Calories

Two heart surgeons visit: McDonald’s, Subway, and Dominos. They choose the following meals as options if you find yourself having to eat fast food:

  • McDonalds
    • 6 Piece Chicken Nugget with Sweet and Sour Sauce: Skip Fries and Soda.
    • Premium Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Lettuce and Tomato, with no mayo. No Fries or soda
  • Subway
    • 6 inch Veggie Delight on 9 Grain Wheat Bread: Topped with most veggies, peppers. Add avocado if possible for a dose of healthy fats and protei
    • Roast Chicken with Honey Wheat: Peppers, Cucumbers, Spinach, low in trans fats
  • Dominos
    • Tuscan Salami with Roasted Vegetables
    • Mushroom onion and spinach cheese  Artisan pizza (light)

Bonus Tips

  • Fidgeting is actually good for you! Moving your leg while you’re sitting down at the desk, pacing while you’re on the phone, tapping your fingers, etc. will cumulatively burn extra calories, helping you lose weight without any additional exercises.
  • Trick your body with a calorie confusion plan; alternating between high and low calorie days, between 2000 calories on the high day and 1200 on a low day to keep your metabolism moving all the time.
  • Drink more water! Aim for 5 16 oz. glasses a day, or at least 8 8 oz. glasses a day.
